FAQ

Q. What is Crimson Trace recalling and why?

A. CTC has learned that some laser firearm-aiming product lines were made with two laser diode models (Models 25-0655 and 25-0657) from a supplier, which may produce laser emissions that exceed the maximum allowable accessible emission limit of 5mW for these types of laser products.  Safety is paramount to us, so we are taking this measure, as required by FDA regulations, to secure the repair or replacement of all CTC products that might contain the affected diode models.

Q: Is the Agency forcing you to recall the products?

A. Crimson Trace proactively engaged the FDA and we are now working with them in an effort to ensure that we take care of this issue in the best way possible.

Q. What about the Agency recommendation to consumers to avoid products?

A. Please immediately stop using or further distributing any of the CTC product units in question pending their evaluation, and repair or replacement as needed, by CTC.   While CTC has received no reports of injury occurring to users, there is a risk that diodes producing emissions in excess of allowable FDA limits might pose a danger on contact with the eye.  Any laser beam contact with the eye has the potential to cause damage to a person’s retina.

Q. Have there been any injuries?

A. No known injuries have been documented.

Q. How can I tell if the products I purchased are affected?

A. There are two pieces of information on the product that we can cross reference in order to determine an effected product; Date of manufacture and serial number.  See below diagrams on how to find this information.

Q. What is the company doing as a remedy?

A. To remedy the diode issue, your CTC product will be inspected, and if necessary repaired or replaced to assure your unit meets the FDA’s maximum allowable accessible emission limit of 5 mW.  Your CTC product will be returned as quickly and efficiently as possible. All shipping and repair/replacement costs will be covered by CTC. At its full expense, CTC will provide you a shipping label so you can ship your impacted CTC product unit(s) back to CTC, so that CTC can check whether your unit(s) has a II-VI Model 25-0655 or 25-0657 laser diode, and if it does, repair or replace the unit so that it meets the FDA’s requirements.  CTC will return all of your units to you, at no cost, after inspecting and effectuating any needed repair or replacement.

Q. Have you stopped shipping the product?

A. We have quarantined all of the affected parts and shipping of the products with this part has been terminated.

Q. When will you resume shipping?

A. We have started to ship new product with diodes that meet all compliance with our standards and the FDA standards.

Q. Can you provide assurance that the replacement/serviced product that is perfectly safe?

A.We will continue to comply with FDA regulation on all future products.

Q. What happened to cause the issue to get in there?

A. CTC has learned that some of their product units were made with laser diode models from a supplier which may produce emissions that exceed the maximum allowable accessible emission limit of 5 mW for these types of laser products.  Safety is paramount to us, so we are taking this measure, in cooperation with the FDA, to secure the return of all lasers that might contain the affected diode models.
